Enjoying dipping into your newsletter. Good origin stories. Are you aware of how French/German (to some extent UK) patent laws drove the Novartis-Ciba-Geigy and the Hoffman-Roche groups to Basel and that’s a part reason for the Swiss pharma strength today ??

Also, in terms of future - seems like a win for the CROs. AI to discover it but you still need CROs to develop them and trial esp. if you don’t have large pharma infrastructure.

Awesome, thanks Benjamin! I don't have an answer about patent laws or their relationship with the massive Swiss presence in pharma... this may be a direction for additional exploration/writing! 👀

I'm in total agreement with you about the increasing importance of CROs, more to share about that soon!

The dye companies moved to Basel (in part) to avoid French/German patent laws in the 1800s - which among other factors - gave birth to Roche and Novartis today.

Are there good resources (books, articles, etc) that you would recommend for learning about the origins/history of the most relevant pharma cos? Thank you in advance
